Not looking forward to a commute to Tysons, but there is a great job opportunity there for me. Can anyone tell me the best route to commute from South Riding to Tysons in the morning and evening? How long approximately will this commute take on an average day? I know once there's an accident, it'll take forever.
Thanks!

I always took Route 50 to Route 28 to the Dulles Toll Road. If you leave by 7am you will get to Tyson's in about 45 minutes.

Ok, thanks.. so the obvious route is still maybe the quickest. I probably wouldn't be leaving until 7:30-8am... worse time, i know.

I was trying to find some back roads to avoid the 28-267, or 66-495 routes.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I am thinking it will be on average one hour each way. Does that seem accurate?

My SIL lives in SR and avoids 28 at all costs. She takes 606 to the Toll Rd. You could also try taking 50 and then cut behind Sully shopping center and then thru Franklin Farms to the FFX Parkway to the Toll Rd.

There are shortcuts to Tysons that I used when I lived in Oakton, but for you to even get to Oakton or anywhere near 123 to use the shortcuts......it doesn't make sense in terms of time

Thanks Middlin- I like the 50 to Sully shopping center- centreville road to Frankin Farm to FFX Parkway to the Toll Road. Sounds like the Toll Road is necessary to save a little time. Otherwise, I was thinking from FFX Parkway to Sunrise Valley (eastbound) to Hunter Mill (north) to Spring Hill or something like this to get over there...

I often (1-3 times a week) go 50E to 28N to 267E (Toll Road) in the mornings. While 50 and the Toll Road are often backed up, I have never come across traffic on 28N (between 50 and 267). Always moving at full speed. FWIW, I'm on the road between 7 am and 8 am. Maybe traffic comes later?

I think this will be much better than winding your way through the back roads. While the Toll Road may be sluggish, each red light you hit can add up to 4 minutes to your commute.

So, can you tell me how long it took you to get to Tysons from Oakton? We are looking to move to Oakton and my husband will work on the north side of Tysons. Thanks.
