I moved from WA to VA a few months ago. My first cross country move as an adult; first time using a inter-state mover. I selected Mayflower. Their quote was fair; they showed up on time and were professional. I did have a few things damaged but they were quick to respond and resolve.

Good luck with your move.

One possibility is to use PODS containers, and hire "lumpers" at each end. Other than that, my two cross-country moves were accomplished by selling or donating everything I owned that didn't fit in my car with me and my dog :-D

I just moved to NOVA from the Chicago suburbs last year. I don't know what it costed since my employer paid the bills, but I was very happy with Crown Relocations (www.crownrelo.com) on both ends of the move. The packed my house in Chicago, loaded my household goods and a car on seperate trucks, transported both to their warehouse near Dulles, stored everything for a couple months while I closed on a new house here, and then delivered everything, including reassembling furniture. They were very helpful in planning and communicated throughout the process.

I'm sure it wasn't cheap, but it made the already stressful act of moving a little easier.
