This is one big beautiful state with all regions contributing to the mix, I love it all and don't limit my perspective with geographical egocentricity.....

oh, one more thing before I leave my cave this morning, within 7 miles of my front door are NASA LANGLEY RESEARCH CENTER, THE CONTINUOUS ELECTRON BEAM ACCELERATOR FACILITY (better known as Jefferson Lab) and THE NATIONAL INSTTUTE OF AEROSPACE...the engineers and scientists who are employed at these facilities do indeed carry extra sharp spears attached to their loin cloths.....btw, I am a transplant living in Coastal VA.....

As someone from "ROVA" (Roanoke by way of Richmond), I can say that most people just don't care, for the most part. NOVA isn't on the collective consciousness of ROVA the same way that ROVA isn't on the collective consciousness of NOVA.

It isn't really a matter of respect or disrespect. We're just citizens of the same state that happen to live in different areas.

As many have said, the only comments you ever hear about NOVA are related to traffic and cost of living. To those of us who frequent NOVA, traffic is a nightmare. To those that have never been to NOVA, traffic is a thing of legend. And of course, you get comments about C.O.L. ("Why would I pay $1700/mo for a one bedroom in NOVA when I can lease 2 houses and a BMW 3-series for that much in SWVA!")

If anything, a lot of people from "ROVA" think they don't get respect from NOVA. Often time ROVA is depicted as being backwater, uneducated, uncultured, poor, etc, when that isn't universally true.

Thats fine

19 cents on the dollar

I don't want respect, I want my tax money back and for ROVA to stop calling NOVA the "socialists". Conservative parts of this state could make a lot of headway with me if they did the conservative thing and ended the archaic, overarching, and blanket tax laws of our commonwealth

Again, while I personally have had run ins with folks in the 81 corridor, it doesnt mean I think the people are bad. I think the leaders who represent that area are bad, and disingenuously demagogue counties like Fairfax as the problem, when we are the only reason, as I said, the budget works in this state. The reason why new schools can be built in Chesterfield County, or a new highway in Central VA, and all the while we are completely tapped for any darn funds around here. We have NO money because we have to send away so much of it to pay for other parts of the state.

WE need new schools
WE need more road funds and transit
It sure would be nice if, like the rest of the state, the state would pay for large portions of that, instead of us having to continuously raise local real estate and sales taxes to make up for the gap.

But then again, its those darn socialists raising taxes to pay for stupid things like schools and roads again. Har har har

We in Hampton Roads need all of the above, we are strangling in traffic, our many bridges need repairs and our schools need work. I would suggest that the urban, eastern half of this state is indeed left in the dust by legislators from rural areas of VA, therefore lets recoin the question to be - URBAN CRESCENT- the Rodney Dangerfields of Virginia?

I dont disagree that Norfolk/I-64 corridor is also paying far more towards the rest of the state than they get back.

My gripe with NOVA is I moved out of NY three years ago to escape failed liberal economics and they just voted a slate of it into office, so I'm definitely feeling some animosity for that region right now.

Beyond that I'm just glad I don't live there.

It reminds me of where I left (Westchester county NY-an overpriced pimple on the butt of a major city) and if you wish to live like that, better you than me.
