I'll be taking the VRE from Woodbridge to DC starting this spring. Can I get a seat on the train (7am-7:30 or so) or is it too crowded by that time, coming north from Fredericksburg and Quantico?

thanks very much for your replies.

Not a clue ..sorry It is a pretty small subset of commuters so maybe no one saw your post.
They did just build a walkway and overflow parking lot a year or two ago-so there is a increase in riders.

I don't take the train myself but I've never heard it running out of seats.

I'm usually on the train earlier in the day and get on at Rippon. Based on my limited riding experience the seats are close to full at that time so I would assume that there would be more riders during the 7-8 timespan since it gets to the city by 9.

I'm pretty sure you'll definitely be able to get a seat. I get on at Franconia-Springfield at 7:20 and I never even have a problem.

If you look at this document: the 310 and 312 trains (7/7:40) are the two least used trains with only about 75% capacity used:

I've used the VRE from Fredericksburg multiple times and plenty of people get off at the stations before Woodbridge. You'll be fine!

Also lots of people get off at the Franconia stop to hop on the metro. Seats quickly become available. The Franconia stop isn't that far in case you do have to stand.

If you board at Woodbridge, you'll get a seat, but it won't be a choice seat. On one side the rows have two seats. On the other side, the rows have three seats. The Fredericksburg riders will take all the window seats. Then the Stafford, Quantico, and Rippon riders will take most of the aisle seats. You might still find an aisle seat, but many times, you'll end up in the middle of a three-seat row.
