My family and I are considering a number of townhouses in the area near Fair Oaks Mall and Fairfax Town Centre. Seems very convenient to shopping and other nice amenities. I will be working in Tysons with typical start time. In addition, there is potential to be working in Arlington some days. Just wanted to get an updated sense of the commute times from this area. I had been looking in Vienna, but the options are very limited. Are there options for routes? Thanks for the help.

Fairfax/Fair Lakes... I66 is a bear. It might look close, but its a solid 35 minutes unless you wake up before the rush... which at that spot on I66 you gotta be on it prior to 7am to beat the big plug of traffic coming out of Prince William County.

So, you can cut it to 20 minutes if you leave the house at 6:30, otherwise its 35 minutes even on a good day. Half the time it will approach 45 minutes.

Unfortunately, the above is pretty much spot on.

We have a townhouse right near Fairfax Town Centre, it's mid-way between our jobs in Arlington and Manassas and I really like it and the area (and grew up most of my life just a mile or two down Lee Hwy).

I take Rt. 50 in the mornings and it's not that bad a drive but I would hate to have to go into Tysons on I-66E even though it's a shorter distance...too many people trying go that route.

I can count on my hand the number of times I've been to Tyson's so I'm not sure of viable alternatives in the morning (123?).
