I asked this on the main Virginia and got a pretty decent response. Which state do you personally like better or think is more progressive or just has more activities to do....North Carolina or Maryland which one would be your choice?

NC is the state i like better. I have family in NC, my favorite team is the Panthers, and i'm contemplating a move to Greensboro next year. So NC is where its at for me.

I don't really see how you can compare two whole states against each other. Both are large states w/hugely different regions, populations, weather, etc. By the way, live in Virginia now, from Pa. originally and contemplating NC to move to mainly because of health reasons. And GO STEELERS

I prefer Maryland over North Carolina. It's all a matter of preference though. I prefer the tackiness of Ocean City over the serenity of the Outer Banks. I prefer the high density urban development of Baltimore and select suburbs, over the sprawl of Raleigh. I prefer liberal environments over conservative. I like crabs. I don't like sweet tea. I prefer being in the midst and within close proximity to a slew of major cities, rather than somewhat near a few mid-size cities. So Maryland it is.

I personally like MD better, but economically NC seems to be on the right track... NC is doing great, but I just can't get past the pine trees (I HATE pine trees)

I must agree with a previous post that there is NO way anyone can compare the two states. First of all, this is a Northern Va posting area and ANYONE who has had to deal with neighboring state drivers will always have negatives. Also, Maryland is within a few miles of Northern Va and NC is 3 hours South! I have lived in all 3 states and it depends on what you look for! NC is a very boring state coming from the north through Rocky Mt and into Raleigh. Maryland is good tech-wise up 495/270 through Rockville (but can be too melting pot for so many) and into Frederick (which can be too small town for some). The Eastern Shore is beautiful and the crabs are IT!

I really have a hard time answering this ... I guess that if I'm living in VA, then NC would make a more interesting vacation. It would be more "different" from Virginia than going to Maryland, and would feel more like I was "getting away". But there are certainly parts of MD that I like a lot.
