Hi everyone,

Our family is weighing our options for a location to move. Work is in Chantilly. We originally liked Leesburg but now are wondering if the MD side of the Potomac may be a better option. We are looking at new developments in Brunswick, MD and Point of Rocks, MD. Does anyone know about how long driving the commute from each would be?

Thanks!

You're probably looking at an easy hour if you take 7 instead of the toll road. You could save probably at least 10 minutes if you're willing to take the toll road.

Yes, we would be taking the toll roads. So you think about 50 mins from either Brunswick or Point of Rocks? Just trying to figure if there is a closer advantage from either.
* it looks like from Brunswick is rt. 287 S and from Point of rocks is 15 S.
Thank you.

15 is a bear heading S in the mornings and N in the evenings. I would say it would take you 40 minutes from Point of rocks to Chantilly with zero traffic (using the Greenway), and well over an hour during normal traffic periods.

Maryland seems like a far worse option. Even Leesburg seems far. Live in Western Fairfax, Herndon, Sterling, Reston, south of the airport. Those Greenway tolls will really start to add up

Why Maryland if you are working in Chantilly? There are so many options closer to your work, to not have to commute that far. My husband works in Chantilly and we live in Gainesville, which some would say is even far. My husband feels it is a pretty easy commute with no toll road fees.

We were looking at Leesburg and other places in VA, but feel that we can get more for our money in Maryland. Even taxes/ cost of living seems less. As long as the commute in under an hour we can deal. The tolls are covered so no issue for them.

Thanks for the advice, we will probably go back and forth on where to move on the next year, right now we are just liking the idea of a new house in MD for under 400K.

The commute will not be under an hour and it will be a draining, slow commute.

That commute will suck. An old coworker at my last job moved way out to that area of MD, and she hated the commute and I think regretted it. She was going to Silver Spring. Maybe yours is a little better since you're crossing over into VA instead of going down 270, but it's still not going to be fun.

It will be a new house that you barely spend waking time at
