I am about to move to Northern VA for a sales opportunity. My territory will be 1 hour south of Richmond to Alexandria area. I am looking for an apartment that reasonable priced around $1200. Can someone please tell me a nice area to stay within my territory and won't be too expensive?

Thanks!

Are you more of a homebody or do you like to go out?

If you're more of a homebody, you will get a lot more bang for your buck in Stafford or Spotsylvania Counties. If you want a more exciting place to live, then Woodbridge would probably be a pretty good area to look. It's more affordable than a lot of parts of NOVA and you can get a studio or 1BR for $1200 (generally, look west of I-95 in Woodbridge because east of I-95 is a little sketchy).

Alexandria to 1 hour south of Richmond is a large territory. Will you be spending more time in or making more commutes to one over the other?

I live in Woodbridge and when there is no traffic, we can be in Richmond in about 90 minutes - 1 hour 45 minutes. If you're going another hour past Richmond and will be going in that direction often, I'd suggest Fredericksburg as the furthest north you should go. In decent traffic, you can be in Alexandria or Richmond in about an hour. Now if you'll be making the commute north during morning rush, that's a whole 'nother thing to take into consideration.
