I am not familiar with the commute across any bridge but the 14th St. into D.C. (and even that commute is before/after rush hour truly hits), so that's why I came here - to ask people with experience! I can look at a map and estimate the travel time (hence Reston), but it's hard to tell the actual travel time figuring in for traffic, average delay due to accidents etc.

I did think the Silver Line going-up in Reston might make it easier to get into Rockville that way, but maybe not?
No, no, NO! According to the WMATA website, it's a 78 minute trip and costs $5.90 in rush hour, which works out to around $3,000 a year, not even counting parking or taking a bus to/from the station. And that 78 minutes of course assumes Metro is not having one of its epic failures, which it seems to be experiencing on a pretty regular basis these days.

A cousin of mine used to live in a SFH in Rockville, near Georgia and Connecticut Avenues, and while it wasn't my cup of tea, the area seemed pretty decent.

You should probably be looking at Gaithersburg, North Potomac, Germantown, Clarksburg, Olney, Aspen Hill, or other places like those.

Are schools at all a consideration? If not, there's places in Silver Spring/Wheaton in your price range. If so, welcome to Frederick. But yes, somewhere in Maryland that works for your commute (Also which Metro Line are you on?) is what you'll need.
