Hey there! My husband has decided to try his hand at getting a job in DC after he graduates next May with his PhD (although I'm pretty nervous since it's so competitive) I will be graduating with a Masters in Elementary & Special Education at the same time.

I have looked at the DC schools websites including Alexandria, Fairfax, and Arlington Public Schools. For the suburbs, they don't seem to have a lot of job postings on their websites but advertise job fairs they are having and also say they have teacher shortages in almost every area.

Since there is conflicting information on the internet, I would like to know- how difficult is it for someone with not much teaching experience to get a job teaching in the DC suburbs?

I've always had a passion for city kids since I was born in the city but after working at a city school this semester I am discouraged from working in the inner city even though I love the kids.

Also, has anyone taught in these places before? What were your experiences? Know anything about the interview process and how long it takes or when the best time to apply is?

Thanks in advance for any info you can share!!
-Sarah

I work for FCPS. You might not see specific openings right now online because they have taken them off in preparation for transfers. They will be posted again once "Transfair" is complete.

I will send you a PM.
