You could try cutting through Clifton but Clifton is a toss up. Sometimes, especially during the summer, it can get super congested and trying to make a left/right turn can take up to 20 minutes but other than the turns it's typically smooth sailing. I use to cut through Clifton and take 29, 29 wasn't too bad. Clifton was where I had most of the problems but it was much better than taking 28 and 495.

Also, I wasn't going all the way to Tysons so ultimately, it's still going to be a long commute but try different options and see which works best for you. It may be best, if you can, to just use the Express Lanes/HOT Lanes.
