There are very slim pickings for homes with those paramenters.

12553 PLYMOUTH CT, WOODBRIDGE, VA 22192 | MLS PW9760735 | Listing Information | MRIShomes.com

What about renting, OP? Since DC is a distant third choice, perhaps you're not planning to stay here for long-term and renting might be a better option. Perhaps your children could share rooms, so maybe a three bedroom would suffice. What would your monthly rent budget be?

It's a possibility, but I don't want my children going through the trauma of moving every few months like hobos. We have no desire to stay in the area.

If you think that's something, check out his classy OP post in the Durham thread.

As you will see later in the thread, they were all legitimate questions.

Why would you move every few months? You could have at least a 1-year lease. Some places may even allow a longer term of 2- or 3-years. If you have no desire to stay in the area for at least five years, then you should rent instead of buy.

You seem to already have a defeatist attitude so maybe we're just wasting our time.

Renting does not entail moving every few months. Plenty of people rent when they move to a new area. With a six-figure income, I don't know why you're assuming you're priced out of the DC area. You seem to be expecting Texas housing prices, and that won't happen. You'll have to pay more for housing, but your income still should be sufficient.

Here's a 2200sqft 3/3.5 for $1750 a month.

Depending on where your work is in DC, this would be pushing the 1 hour commute limit. Public transportation is easily accessible and often times quicker (maybe cheaper too if your potential employer doesn't provide parking or subsidizes it). You should definitely ask them about the parking situation.

I thought the line of thought was: don't buy a house unless you plan to keep it AT LEAST five yrs. (to say nothing of that super-low budget and champagne wants w/size, bedrooms, bathrooms, location, etc.)
