It breaks every conservatives heart to learn that that there is an inverse relationship between a locality's liberalness and the property tax rate. The most liberal jurisdictions: DC, Arlington, and Alexandria have the lowest rates.

Keep watching Fox news people!

More like an inverse relationship between the number of homosexuals and the number of school age children. Kind of ironic that the tech giants can't function without people from India, where per pupil expenditures are less than 100 bucks, per year; not per day.

I live in Courthouse (Arlington) and love it. To me it offers all the advantages that DC has, but with much less crime (particularly violent crime) and income taxes that are half of DC's. I go to DC frequently and most of the popular attractions are located just a 15-25 min bike ride away from Courthouse on Capital Bikeshare (biking back is much more difficult due to Arlington having the topography of Appalachia). Everyone I know who lives in a house in DC is constantly having stuff stolen out of their yard and their vehicles are always being broken into. Arlington is also so much more car friendly, which is nice.

What about total tax as opposed to just property tax? I believe DC has lower property taxes but higher income taxes?

And I am not sure this is universal because Seattle has really high property taxes IIRC?

DC is a little more lively and there's more to do but there's more crime (to be expected since DC has more people and is a bigger city) - Arlington is also a bit (and by a bit I really mean a bit) cheaper. Overall, they're pretty similar with a few exceptions.

LOL. Sadly this is very true.

Here's a major exception: firearm ownership with legal carry in Virginia. DC absolutely not. Even possession of ammo is illegal!
Two parallel worlds.

Sure, that's important to some people. But most young people (not all I'm sure) trying to choose between Arlington and DC aren't really over analyzing something like this, to be completely honest.

In my experience, the word "most" is strong here. I know many young people who chose Virginia specifically for that reason. Many more than I would have thought.
