Totally agree there.

I've only heard about the proposal here on this board. But I've also heard that the modified year-round schools might revert to regular calendars for budget reasons, so it's plausible.

Won't the teachers and their unions have a fit because it would mean so many K teachers would no longer be needed? Since teachers cannot be laid off, what will happen to all those kindergarten teachers? Won't it be even more expensive to give them administrative jobs?

I read it in several newspapers.

There's a lot of attrition in FCPS, so I imagine those teachers won't be sitting around long.

BTW, this is great for bus drivers! I lost my K-run a few years ago when my school went full-day....maybe I'll get it back! K-runs are fun and good for 6-10 hours pay a week!

You're right, it's listed as a possibility here on page 24:

It won't happen. FCPS says stuff like this every year to get parents upset and to get them to lobby the board of supervisors for a tax increase. They know if they say they'll cut 1,000 administrators, instead of cuts to the classroom, no one will care and no one will lobby for their taxes to be increased.

Angelus Academy (http://www.angelusacademy.com/registration/tuition.html - broken link)

This independent Catholic school in Springfield has half day K
If I didn't live so far, I would have seriously looked into it.
As an educator, I think half-day kindergarten is better. I hope more schools go back to half-day.

Default Thanks~

Most people are anti half day and I think that is because they want to have a solution to get rid of their kid all day long. Their story about learning twice is much is a lie. I have had people tell me that with the nap or quiet time, extra play time and lunch, there is not a lot of extra learning going on. Thanks for making me not feel like so much of the minority in this!

You surely are referring to FCPS early release days on Mondays.
