Did they build the ice city at National Harbor last year? Chinese Sculptors Put National Harbor on ICE! | NBC Washington

If so, did anyone here go and would you recommend it? We have house guests from southern California coming in the first week of December and I'm considering that as a place to go.

My thought was to take them to Old Town via the metro (they're train buffs, so they want to see how our metro compares to the LA metro). Then enjoying Old Town (which is totally different from anything you'd find in LA). Then capping off the afternoon by taking the ferry across to the Gaylord Hotel and checking out the ice city (another thing you wouldn't find in LA).

I think this is new. This was on Channel 4 news, I think Monday night. It looks beautiful and reminds me of what they used to do every year in Hokkaido, Japan.

It looks interesting to me but a $25 a pop for each adult, it's a bit too cost prohibitive for my family.

I think it's new for this area. However, I noticed that Gaylord has done an ICE show at their Texas resort for several years. Maybe post something over in the DFW site? I'm thinking of going, too. They sure are promoting the heck out of this thing.

Oh my, that is pricey. I didn't realize it was quite that much. Hmmm, maybe we'll just enjoy walking around the lobby, looking at the glass tree and whatever else is there. I wonder how much of the ice art you can see from the lobby? They probably have a few token pieces you can see as teasers.

The Groupon special a couple of days ago was 50% off adult tickets to Ice. I completely forgot to buy a couple that day (doh!), but maybe they'll run it again. I want to go too!

The child ticket was $13 (don't know if there were kids in your group). The price did include being able to slide down the "ice slides."

What is groupon? We would LOVE to see this, but that is a pretty steep price IMO.

Default Groupon

Every day there is a different discount offered. Usually the discounts are 50% off the price of something, sometimes more. Some recent ones were 50% off Newseum admission, 50% off Gaylord's ice event, today's is $10 for $25 worth of food at a restaurant downtown. Each discount hinges on whether a preset number of people commit to the buying the offer. You hand over your credit card info initially and if enough people do the same, your card is charged and they e-mail you the tickets / certificates within 24 hours. Here's the website (Groupon Deal of the Day: Find Great Deals on Fun Things to Do in Washington DC).
