We'll be moving from Alabama to Manassas within the next four months. Could anybody tell me about Point of Woods and Paradise? The townhouses in those two areas are the bigger ones we've seen online, but are those neighborhoods safe? Thanks!

Default Checking out the crime scene

I'd ask the police department 703-257-8000. Townhomes are selling fast and furiously here, but prices are pretty low--most are short sales. You might wish to go ahead and rent until you're more familiar with the area.
There are also some really pretty spots just out of town that you may not have discovered yet, and things have been changing so quickly here lately!

The neighborhoods are safe. What are looking for in a neighborhood? The area is diverse - 50% Hispanic, 25% White, 15% Black, 10% Asian.

We're basically looking to rent in a neighborhood in 20110 or 20109 with larger but affordable townhomes, decent sized yards, kids, and low crime.

It's changing fast here. . . a lot of townhomes are being snapped up by investors who want to rent them, so in 4 months the picture will have changed substantially as far as what's available. You shouldn't have trouble finding what you're after: LOTS of those available. Remember that buying would be cheaper than renting, though. If kids are part of the equation, you might want to select 2 or 3 neighborhoods, check out the schools, and that may help you make the decision.

I'd steer clear of Point of Woods. Is Paradise the ones off of Plantation Lane? If so, pretty decent area.

Most police agencies have policies limiting what information they may hand out regarding specific neighborhoods. You can obtain things like crime statistics but they cannot offer opinions about certain neighborhoods. Prince William County PD actually has this in their general orders as most do.

Is it a high crime/gang neighborhood? If it's just culturally or racially diverse, that's fine.

It's become a higher crime area over the years. More so then I would like to live in. Most all of Manassas is culturally and racially diverse.
