Moving to Honolulu from Kentucky & Need Apartment! (Pearl City, Aiea: rental, to live in)

My girlfriend and I are moving mid-October and need an apartment. We'd prefer a furnished apt, but may not be able to afford that. We're hoping to keep the rent under $1,500 per month. I'm interested in Aiea, pearl City, or Waikele. Other than that, we don't have any idea where to start. We want a safe, clean apt to live in. I will be working on Paiea Street in honolulu, zip code 96817, so I'd like to live somewhere fairly close to that. ANY help ANYONE can give me is appareciated!!!! Thanks!!

If you have a car and the employer provides parking, then Aiea, Pearl City or Waikele are fine. If you're walking or taking the bus, probably too far west.
I'd try craigslist and use google maps to see how far the apts are from work.

Go with a vacation rental for the 1st week or two. That allows you to get a feel for the area and relax some while searching for a longer term rental. Utilize vrbo.com or similar and be very careful of renting via craigslist. There are a lot of scams on it.
