I'm being transferred to Hawaii in march, specifically ill be working at the honolulu international airport. I'm hoping that someone can guide me in the right direction to find a nice apartment complex close bye that's not going to break my bank. I've already got a vehicle lined up so that's not an issue, thank you so much for any help!
Yea I've been searching craigslist but Ive had bad experiences in the past, was Hoping someone from the area would have some valuable knowledge they could pass on.
That's the only game in town - the other sites either screen scrape from craigs to their own site or dual cross post. If you don't like craigs in Honolulu it may be a painful search.
It would really help if you could provide some details to what "would not break the bank." At least then we could provide what areas you may want to consider.

What you really need to do if find some temp housing for at least a few weeks - a site to try is www.vrbo.com Trying to secure permanent housing before you arrive is a recipe for getting ripped off regardless of the site. An advantage of vrbo is many of the renters take credit cards and if you have a problem you can dispute with the credit card.
When you get here, you should find something around the airport for $1,400 or less.
I have been searching as well and have less than two weeks to find a place and Craigslist has turned out to be a joke as over 90% of the postings are scams. I would try realtors and property management companies. As for the property management companies, always make sure to check for reviews about them on Yelp to determine if they treat tenants like dirt or not. For example, when you get more detailed search results for places you may find some that are managed by Oishi's property management. If you look this property management company up on Yelp, the user reviews are not very favorable. But all that said, it is all relevant to the individual, so working with a property management company that does not give a damn about you and wants to extort as much money as possible out of you might not be a big deal for some people. Oh, and you can try hawaiiasublet.com but I have been using that for a month and have responded to about 30+ postings and have not received a response yet so it is possible all their rentals are just fake store fronts. Maybe also try Find Real Estate, Homes for Sale & Houses for Rent - REALTOR.com®. FYI, if you are going to sign up for any of these find rentals assistance web sites, do yourself a favor and create some anonymous email account on Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail and use that email account only for apartment searches, as there is a very high possibility that some of these websites will try and sell off your personal data (assuming any is provided) for marketing purposes.

Beware though, the latest scam going on with vrbo is the scammers are copying photos from real vrbo rentals and then using them along with the borrowed description to post their ad for the same place at a much cheaper rate. Unsuspecting renters/vacationers inquire, book, and pay using credit card along with the CC pin and that is usually about all the scam artist needs to financially ruin a person.
Property mgmt companies have a very limited inventory - and all post to craigslist. Quite frankly, all this talk of craigslist scams seems a bit off to me in Hawaii - people talk of them, but never post any. I'm a landlord and monitor the going rate and I don't see sketchy ads everyone talks about.
Everyone so desparately wants an alternative to craigslist and there really aren't any. Many do get frustrated they respond to ads and they don't get a call back - and guess what, that's Hawaii. It is a landlord market right now - maybe they didn't like your email (red flag in an email, I'm moving from the mainland, I don't respond to those).
Using your credit card for temp housing or even a hotel cannot financially ruin you - first off, if there is a multi-year review history on vrbo that should tell you something - and in the rare case off of vrbo you have an issue, you dispute with your credit card.
If one is all that worried - then grab one of the cheap hotels at the airport and start the search in person.
