Hello,

I was going to have a "grocery store company" deliver food to my hotel room before arrival; however, their prices for food such as eggs and milk are high. For example the milk was $6 for half gallon - are these the same prices if you would purchase at a local store such as a Walmart? If the prices are different, then I will more than likely pick up my own groceries. Thanks so much.

Pick up your own groceries. Though, milk and eggs are more expensive here than on the mainland you can find better deals by checking different stores. You can find the infamous 10.00 a gal milk if you try hard enough I guess, but you can just as easily find the 3.85-4.10 a gal milk too. My suggestion is grab a burger when you get here, get settled in your hotel, then go in search of groceries.

Yes, of course they are higher than grocery store prices. You have to pay extra for the convenience of having in-room service at hotels... for anything!

Not exactly sure that the "hotel" would allow someone to just go in and deliver to an empty hotel room either.

I didn't even know there were any services which would do that. Which hotel is it? If it's in the midst of Waikiki, there may not be all that many grocery stores nearby, really. A proliferation of ABC stores and that one sort of small grocery over on Kuhio, but are there any real grocery stores in Waikiki? Although there are a lot of hotels which aren't in Waikiki, too. Which island? Which hotel? Then we could help you out more with suggestions of where the nearest grocery would be.

There's a small Foodland in Waikiki. But if you have a car, Safeway, Foodland (bigger & cheaper), Times, and Wal Mart are all within 3 miles of that Foodland.

A group of 4 of us will be staying at Ilikai Hotel and Suites in Oahu. Thank you for any suggestions on where to shop for groceries.

There used to be a Foodland in Ala Moana Shopping Center which is really close to the Illikai. You could walk to that one, although carrying groceries back could get heavy. I suppose you will be renting a car, though. Did you know that parking a car at a hotel in Waikiki is not included in the daily room rate?

Yep, it's close to the Ala Moana Foodland. Also not far from Wal-mart if you have a car. But I would recommend Don Quijote's instead of Walmart. It's also not too far if you have a car, and it's just a complete trip. There's no supermarket on the mainland like it. (I tell people: it's like if you went to a Target in Japan, but it had been designed by someone on acid.)

I love Don Quijote's, and the food prices are as good as what you'll find other places most likely.
