It can be either one. There aren't any governmental districts smaller than a county, so it could be the Diamond Head or Kahala area of Honolulu County. Plus Honolulu is sort of a continuous sort of city that merges all sorts of little housing areas into it. If you are giving directions, then it is Diamond Head which is a very common landmark used when giving directions. If it is on the Kahala side of Diamond Head crater, then it's probably Kahala. If it's on the hillside between Diamond Head and on the Waikiki side then it might be "Diamond Head". Try ask your neighbors, they will know what the area is called. If you are mailing a letter, then it's probably "Honolulu, 96816". You can put "Kahala, Hi 96816" and it will probably still get there, too.
I tried to update my address via facebook and i cant use Diamond Head nor Kahala - only could choose Honolulu
