Michs is by far my favorite, but its pretty pricey.

If you want the best bang for your buck, Sushi San on Kapiolani has a dinner buffet special. All you can eat Sushi for $20

*stomach growling*

Looking forward to utilizing that list! Be there by New Years!

Here in CT there are several all-you-can-eat sushi places. We have a favorite but in all fairness there are 3 that are really good.

(we're not opposed to pulling a fish out of the ocean and slicing it up either)

Fast food chain sushi. You aren't going to get high quality at Genki Sushi.

IK LOLOL. I still love it, though.

Sushi Sasabune is the best on island - it is AMAZING. If you just want sushi/sashimi and you are willing to drop a lot of $$, you have to go there. Sit at the bar, it's omakase only. Nothing weird, just incredibly fresh fish prepared to perfection. I have had sushi all over the US, in very good restaurants, and none of them touch Sasabune. With some sake/beer you will spend about $100-$150 a person.

I was going to start a thread similar to this, but thought I'd just restart this one...

I'm going to Honolulu for a few days(got a deal in Waikiki for a hotel) before heading on to Kauai... I've had some great Japanese food in Hawaii but I haven't been back for over a decade--and I know restaurants can come and go or change in quality pretty quickly.

Are there any good sushi bars near Waikiki these days? I'm willing to take a bus somewhere close by(won't have a car), but we'd like to stay fairly close--we'll probably also be down around the downtown/Chinatown area as well for a day. Is there any good sushi or Japanese food at the Ala Moana Center? How far is Morio's and is it still good?

Have you tried yelp? There are over 400 reviews of Morio's on the site.

I will look at Yelp along with Urbanspoon and the other sites to see what's on there eventually, however this topic just crossed my mind about a half hour ago at work--and I thought I'd ask the question of the good people of CityData to begin with.

Yes, I have heard of Yelp, thanks for reminding me of it...

Edited---Okay according to Yelp, reservations are down right impossible to get at Morio's, so maybe we'll just consider that probably out of luck for our trip in two months...

It seems 3 months in advance is the norm.

Yelp has a very active base on Oahu with very detailed reviews - hence my suggestion. There is only a small handful from Oahu that post on here.

If your question is about the Big Island, you'd likely have several multi-paragraph responses.
