I'll be back in Honolulu next month and want to try some good, fresh sushi outside of Waikiki proper. Anyone have a favorite Sushi place they'd like to recommend. Perhaps in Ala Moana, Kakaako or downtown ?
I'm a creature of habit and normally go to Morimoto's. But I'd like to find a new place to try and am sure there have got to be some good places outside of Waikiki.
I know you said not in Waikiki, but my favorite place was always Sensei which is in the Marriot in Waikiki. They do have kama'aina specials a few times a week (at least they did when I lived there)

That looks amazing. They didn't show anything about specials... and no prices (besides STARTING at.
I think I'm going to have to try it.
The kama'aina specials were never advertised online - you just had to know when they were. I believe one was Sundays but I can't remember what the timeframe was - something like 4-7pm I think.
Cheap:
Morio's (used to be in Waikiki, but now outside of it on King St. so that counts).
Pricey:
Mitch's Fish Market (near the airport).
Sansei is good, especially if you get the discount. Nobu is amazing (the lounge has great deals if the regular menu gives you sticker shock). But, yeah, both of those are in Waikiki.
Local place that's laid back with good sushi and cold beer. Rockin Sushi on Ward Avenue...Popular too with the lunch crowd.
