On Craigslist you can report fraudulent posts and is much more reliable with the most postings.

Although I'm curious Scott, I socialize with a lot of realtors who work all the major places and none consider renters (no money) What real estate company deals with renters?
Sometimes its better to go with the Old fashion Newspaper to find rentals, Sunday even better.

I have to disagree. Why would a landlord want to pay to place an ad when they can post on Craigslist.

Many real estate companies deal with renters through their property management operations. Both small and large real estate companies do this in Hawaii. Of course they are not taking on the renter as a client, but renters can contact the agencies and get placed into one of the rentals the agency manages.

So in that manner, a renter can find a unit by contacting a real estate company such as Prudential (now "Locations LLC") on Oahu.

But yes, Realtors won't take renters as clients but real estate companies do have rentals available and will place a renter into one of their units. So it never hurts to contact one.

But I agree in general that Craigslist is the primary place for people to find their rentals in todays world.

I suggested a realtor because that's what worked for me. Your mileage may vary.

^^^^This! Also, use Craigslist and AHRN to aid in your search.

My daughter worked at Tripler for 3 years. She rented and lived in the Chinatown section of Honolulu, Kailua, and off Waikiki Beach on Ala Wai Blvd in those 3 years.

New question: Is Mililani within commuting distance, say 45 minutes or so? I know it's farther than Aiea or Pearl City, but just how much farther, timewise?

That will somewhat depend on when you leave and when UH is in school. Let's assume prime rush hour and UH in school. You've got a decent chance at 45 minutes or so in the morning and less so in the evening rush hour.
