I am looking for a handyman or a service provider who gets rid of and disposes old window air conditioners and installs new ones. Would you please recommend someone in the honolulu area? If you know the general range of cost, please share it with me. Mahalo.

Do you already have the new unit? If not, wherever you buy it from should provide that service - if not, perhaps try Angie's List?

whtviper1, thank you for your input. If I can buy the new unit from a store and ask them for installment, that will be easy. But the availability of brands and models are limited at honolulu appliance shops and the delivery/installment/disposal cost is not cheap. It's almost $200 per unit. Not all of them provide installment service. So I am trying to see if I can buy units online and arrange installment separately.

Ok.

Well, try Angie's List or Craigslist - my first search for "Handyman" on Craigslist had this as the first listing specific to AC installation.

"Ceiling Fan/Window AC Unit Installation"& Handyman/Electrical SVC

When you find a listing - try to google them or see if they have a rating on Yelp to see if anyone had issues or good feedback.

Thankfully I haven't had to replace my AC's yet, but I did just replace my washer/dryer unit. I purchased it at Lowe's and they delivered, installed and removed the old unit for free. This was on Maui and my condo is 30+ miles from Lowe's. I think Home Depot does the same but I don't know if either one offers this on Oahu.

Thank you so much for your input.

I've been told that Lowe's provides the service at a cost of @$165 plus $60 for +20 floor. Homedepot does deliver but doesn't do installment.

I tried Angie's list but found no related service provider. I found some at the craiglist and will do more search.

Mahalo.

Bought our Air conditioner at Sears. Sears contracted to a local a/c shop and they installed the unit in the window. Contractor got rid of the old A/C.
Had to pay an installation fee, recall it was around $ 50.00 a few years ago. If that is a deal breaker? I'm on the ground floor in Townhouse so not that difficult to install.
Best of luck, in your search.

ScottStielow, thanks for your input. Even if it is a few years ago, $50 was really good, I would say.

I'm pretty sure ScottStielow meant a few decades ago. Unless of course a large chunk of the price paid for the air conditioner went to the installer (which means you overpaid for the unit); nobody will bother installing a unit for less than $200.

No $50.00. Couple of three ago!
