She would probably have to go to Public school to start. I do not know the area or school system very well, honestly. We have a budget of between 1500-1700 a month until I can find a job and that will be very tight for us to start. That is why I was hoping to go ahead first.

As a comparison, I believe rents in Honolulu are generally on par with what you might now expect to pay in Seaburg. I would think that $1500-$1700 would certainly be more than enough for a studio and should work for a one-bedroom. It really depends on location. A two bedroom will cost more, but again, location on the island is the main factor.
Public schools vary in quality, and it is well worth your efforts to research this as best you can. You know your daughter's needs, and no doubt want her to have the best education possible. I am completely unfamiliar with public elementary schools in the Punchbowl and surrounding area.
I agree, being here would assist you in making those two (education and housing), difficult and necessary decisions, however I would recommend being as well prepared as possible before even boarding a plane to come here. Good Luck.
I was going to turn on Seinfeld but no need. That budget with a husband and 8 year old is even funnier.
WV, in fairness to the OP, I originally asked what was her budgeted amount for rent. She indicated $1500-$1700/month. I presume her reply understood this as an amount for rent only
and did not include the cost of other life essentials.

she said budgeted for rent..you are so eager to jump in with a snide answer, you don't/won't comprehend the post.
your posts are in contrast to everything that the Aloha Spirit stands for...
Why don't you try not being a butthole for just one day...?
Give it a shot...
you have nothing to lose but your unmitigated Twattiness.
Holy smokes! Gosh darn you mean I will have to pay to live there too! Like utilities, groceries, toilet paper, food, and clothes and all the incidental crap we all need to live! We have alotted just $1500 to 1700 for just rent and just for now until I am up and working too.
WV, I suspect if one were to peruse Craigslist, one would find a number of apartments available in the OP's
price range. The questions remain as to their location, the desirability of and ability of the OP to rent a particular
property, the associated concerns for her child's schooling, etc., etc. Certainly, the best way to answer these
questions is to be on island and see for herself, however I would highly recommend that she and her family
study, in detail, all they can about the neighborhoods that they think will fit the all important school and
corresponding housing needs prior to her coming to the island to conduct a search in advance of the family
moving. There are plenty of on-line resources to accomplish this.

If you lived in Hawaii you'd know and suspect you wouldn't find anything in that price range.
I mean seriously- let's get real.
$60 a night or less short term. Come on now.
