You've got a mainland mechanic husband who somehow secures an Oahu job. Yes, a mechanic.

Dreadlocked Mom stays at a YMCA and in 1 1/2 weeks manages to not only get appointments with landlord(s) but manages to convince a landlord to rent to her even though she has no job and the landlord can't meet husband/daughter. She's able to get the cashiers checks and a lease signed all in that time - and husband/daughter can magically show up a few days later.

Come on. It's beyond ridiculous

The YMCA was alright, the staff was supet helpful, and it was cheap and in a good location. Not to keen on the amount cockroaches in my room every night and the drug induced domestic violence episode on my floor, but hey it was a cheap place to stay. I found my apartment on craigslist. The most surprising thing so far is probably the weather, the temperature doesnt change much, the meth drug problems, and the noise, just because I was out of the city/apartment life for about 5 years. All in all, I absolutely love it here.
