Sure, ship it in a cargo container. That will add several thousand dollars to the cost, it would be cheaper to repaint the car.
Some folks put wax on their car before shipping it but don't wipe the wax off so they can see if there are any new scratches in the car while shipping. Also, anything in the car is at risk of theft. Once, years ago, I shipped a VW bug over. It had painted blue rims on it and a new tire on the spare with the same painted blue rim. When the car got to Honolulu, there was an old bald frayed tire on the same painted blue rim so they had time to take the spare out of the car, swap the tire and replace the spare. These folks will have that level of access to your car.
There are loads of cars already in Hawaii. Sell your car on the mainland and buy another when you get to where ever you are going. You will save at least the $1,100 shipping costs. Check to see what's available at what sort of prices on Craig's List. No need to buy a new car, nobody cares what you drive and new cars smell funny anyway.
Thanks for the many replies. We are not sure where we will live. The wife is interviewing for a nursing job and my plans are to substitute teach while we are there. We are both black friendly people. Do you guys think we will be alright on that little island?

Hawaii is in the PACIFIC not the Carribbean. Are you sure you have the right island chain?
