Criminalization of narcotics doesn't stop it ( if that is your goal ) and it's just price support for organized crime.

In addition, the US incarceration rate blows away those of every other country in the world. We make countries like China and Saudi Arabia look like they have a reasonable justice system. Now that's great company to be in.

Many ( most? ) of our detainees are there just for using drugs or selling them. It's part of our War on Drugs which is just sales support for companies that sell stuff to law enforcement.

Marijuana is just a piece of this phony war. Make it legal, tax it, and stop wasting the police's time trying to enforce criminalization laws related to it.

It's the criminalization of marijuana that has led to synthetic pot ( spice ) and the explosion of meth. This stuff is far more harmful than any natural narcotic.
Amen!

It's a little better, but you're right. I should be able to grow as much as I want for my own use.

The current proposal is greed driven. Across the board legalization is the only thing that makes sense. Opium poppies and coca leaves included.

Everybody should be able to grow and sell as much marijuana as they want. We cannot tolerate marijuana being taxed in any special way either.

On another front, we need to work on disbanding the already totally ineffective DEA which will only become more ineffective with the widespread legalization of marijuana and save 3 billion dollars annually.

Who's "we?"

Alcohol and tobacco are taxed in "special ways." Giving in on that "special" stuff gets the sin legalized. Unfortunately, the government entities doing the 'money grab' on all that "special" tax money gets depressing.

I'm inclined to agree. However; realistically the only way legalization is going to happen is with some taxation. Want to know what is insane? The fact that cannabis and industrial hemp because of bureacracy and special interests was outlawed in the first place!

+1.

We need a federal approach to full legalization rather than state by state. But how that's going to happen I don't know.

It will happen by a state-by-state legalization march. Pretty soon, it will overwhelm them and they will have to relent since so many people will be felons according to the Feds.

Also, people in the states that haven't legalized it will observe that in the states where it is legal, crime will be down and pot use won't be any higher. The state-by-state legalization will be a domino effect.

Just because it's legal doesn't mean people can smoke it anywhere they want.
Just because it's legal doesn't mean employers can't still fire people for using it.

All of you supporters should check out the various threads about marijuana in the Current Events and Politics and Controversies Forum, and look at some of the BS being spewed by the "Reefer Madness" crowd!

Once marijuana becomes legal across the nation, the next step will be to make it illegal for employers to force their employees to undergo drug testing, because employers have no right to know what chemicals are in the bodies of their employees.
