I have applied for the principal position at St.Gerard. Not trying to start a brouhaha but why is St.Charles better than St.Gerard? I am from out of town and just trying to collect information.

I've lived in Lima Proper for 40 years and I've never been a victim of a crime and don't know anyone who has.

Lima is a lot like Canton, or Altoona and Johnstown in Pennsylvania; a blue-collar town with a gritty history for which it's not going to offer any apologies. It has played a prominent role in the history of steam boiler manufacturer Babcock and Wilcox, and the last commercially-built steam locomotive in America left the Lima Locomotive Works in 1949 (it's now preserved in Lima).

And the town is also recalled as the place that marked the "beginning of the end" for John Dillinger and his cronies; Dillinger was ensconced in the Allen County Jail when his associates Harry Pierpont and Homer Van Meter turned up, impersonating fellow lawmen. When Sheriff Sarber asked them for credentials, they produced weapons and fatally shot him.

Dillinger and Co. were captured in Arizona, and brought back for trial, but Dillinger was sent to Crown Point, Indiana, where he faced a stronger murder charge, and subsequently escaped again. Pierpont and Van Meter were convicted of Sarber's murder and sentenced to death. A third associate, whose name escapes me, got a life sentence. The two condemned prisoners also tried breaking out of the Ohio Penitentiary, but Van Meter was killed in the attempt, Pierpont recovered sufficiently to be electrocuted about two months later.

This is an old thread but it seemed to cover the topic very well. I was offered a job recently at the tank plant. I'm leaning toward NO even though it would be a small promotion, mostly because what I've read about the crime rate scares the crap out of me as a single female. Are there any safe areas to rent a house that are reasonably close to the tank plant? Like I said, I'm already leaning toward NO but I'd like to hear some opinions from people with experience.

Bluffton, Columbus Grove, Ottawa, Cridersville, Wapakoneta, Elida, and Delphos are all places nearby that are very safe.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the answer. Does anyone recommend any decent realtor's or property management companies in any of those areas? If I take the job I plan to only stay for a couple years to max out the promotion grade, than move on again. OH is not high on my list of places to live long term.

It's a full days drive from where I currently work/live, so if I decide to take it I'm only going to get one shot to come out and check it out before I move. So I need to check out some property on that visit and hopefully rent a places.

Appreciate any info.
