I am thinking of moving to the Oklahoma City area. I have friends that live there that say it is wonderful. Good weather, lots of things to do, jobs, etc... This is my problem... I have multiracial children. Would they fit in this area of the country? I'm just asking because I have been in the South Carolina area recently and things were very much segregated there.
Please Help!

I wouldn't think having multicultural children here would be an issue whatsoever. I attend a church here that is very multicultural and I've never heard of anyone having issues.
I think because of the large native amercian culture here in Oklahoma, people are used to seeing a mix of races and not as opposed to it as certain Southern states.

I will add that in more rural areas of Oklahoma, your children would stand out and may have a harder time. I know some military moms in Altus with mixed race children who have experienced discrimination.
In Okc though, it just doesn't seem to be an issue from what I've seen.

I cannot speak from personal experience, but I can say that I see multiracial families here all the time, probably more so than anywhere else I've ever lived. I have friends who have multiracial grandchildren and they have never mentioned it being a problem for them.

I'm moving to OKC next month from Galveston County, TX. Not sure what to expect, but I been around the US a bit and nothing could be worse than Lake Charles, LA lol. Does anyone have any opinions on the job market? OKC's unemployment rate is 2% less than Houston so I figured I should have a better chance.

There is a guy named Blake Griffin who was born and raised in Oklahoma City. He attended the University of Oklahoma along with his brother Taylor and they were members of the basketball team there. Both were drafted into the NBA with Blake being the number one overall pick in the NBA draft.

Blake and Taylor are both biracial kids (mom is white and dad is an african american). Their parents got together when they were both teachers in the Oklahoma City public schools in the 1970's.

The Griffin boys did pretty good growing up in our community. I bet your kids could do good here too.

This is interesting, I'm multiracial(African American, Choctaw Indian, and Irish, mom is Choctaw and Afro Am, dad is half irish and half Afro Am) I grew up in Altus. My mom was really active in NAACP and always was complaining about racism this and racism that. I never paid any attention because i really didn't know what she was talking about. I was never the victim of any prejudice or racism, that I knew of at least.

I moved to Edmond(OKC Suburb) in 2002, where i enjoyed life for the next 7 years. to be honest, My friends would joke about racism because I was normaly the only person 'of color' around. I'm also the furthest from being "black". Don't mean to offend anyone. what I mean by that is people are sometime suprised to here me talk for the first time because i have a thick SW Oklahoma accent.

All in all, If you're moving to the OKC metro, your kids will be fine. They might actually enjoy it. Don't be suprised if they start sayin "ya'll" a lot more

I'm a teacher and from what I have noticed it's not an issue. With the girl in my class the biggest discrimation is the attitude from the child, but nothing on race. She is freakin' adorable.
