Hi all,

Well I'm likely moving to Oklahoma this summer, near Sulpher or thereabouts. I grew up in Texas and visited my mother's folks in Oklahoma regular, now my mother is retired and I'd like to move closer to her to be there for her.

Anyway, my question is about bug handling there. Last summer I got hit good by chiggers in one day, and my daughter is like a tick-magnet, - what do y'all do to lessen the likelyhood of picking up those kinda hitchhikers? I like to be outdoors so I'm guessing some good snake-proof boots would be handy, if there is such a thing.

Thanks for all help.

tuck your trousers in, button your cuffs, try to have as little loose-fitting and hanging clothes as you can..

bug spray is a given, but it helps minimally when there are swarms of them.

last but not least, do the naked tick-dance when you get inside

we get ticks pretty bad here in CT, with the woods and all... summers can be rough.

I don't know if I could explain what one looks like because they're so small, and I'm usually not looking for them until I begin itching....... If you're rolling around or sitting in the grass you will most likely get a chigger bite here in the spring or summer. They itch really bad and if you don't leave the spots alone, you can itch a pretty good sore on you. Fortunately, I've found that rubbing alcohol, takes the itch almost completely away. It stings a bit, but is effective

sounds kinda gross, but it's tried and true.. if you chew/dip tobacco, you can take a little bit of chew out of your mouth, stick it under a bandaid, and slap that on a bite or sting... kills the pain AND the itch. done it myself back when i used chew.

Most people in subdivisions don't have much problem with chiggers. Some sevin dust will kill them if you do.

So when I move to OK, I should take up Skoal?
I guess I'm okay with that, but I'd look pretty
goofy if I got chewed up everywhere and was covered in
band-aids though.

Plus removing all those band-aids later would be a little
painful when one has hair on their arms and legs.

BTW...
Would you happen to be LadyRobyn's son?

I don't suppose rubbing the used tobacco on the bite works as well huh?
The idea of pain and bald spots on my limbs is unattractive to me.

I just found that out in the thread where you accused your
poor dad of being clumsy...
It's probably a good thing for you that he doesn't get on here.

Also... I awarded you a cookie on the Vote Chooser
thread before I knew who you were...
If I knew, I would have made it a dozen.
Good answer!
Looks like you were raised properly.
Points for LR.

BTW... Thanks for your service!.
