I have been on the #7 and #15 about a dozen times each this year and the lowest number of people I saw was around 10 (best was almost full on the 15, had to be around 30 people).

Going by your "nuisance" comment, I assume you are not a rider. If you used them for transit I am sure you would not see it that way. Nor would you see it as a waste of money.

I too can vouch the 15 is very busy everyday (even on sundays) when there is anywhere from 6-12 people on it in the morning when I use it on some sundays

the 4 and 14 during the week is heavily busy during the week

btw:

that is another problem, the drivers needing all these snack or bathroom breaks every hour or so

I took the 5 http://ometro.com/bus-system/bus-routes/north-90th-south-96 (broken link)

yesterday morning (there were 8 folks on it at the time I got on at westroads)

and the driver took a 10 minute break, when ur only supposed to be at westroads for 2 minutes (3 at most)

benson park transit center is worse. the drivers take too long talking to each and creating these 10-15 minute layovers.

it's gotta stop and no wonder people hate the bus system

It does seem a little too much like it's a club. The drivers are a little too relaxed. Something to work on.

I agree.

I feel like it's a layover for the drivers, not a transit center.

I have to disagree to an extent here. Most major lines NEED the full sized buses. Some honestly need Double-decker buses for rush hour (On the #2 especially I have been told there was no more room and to wait for the next bus, or saw 2 buses running back to back because of the load).

Now on some of the smaller routes the vans would work. I know the #17 could get by with a van as most times it is empty, at least from bellevue to the mcc south omaha transit center. I also would think the downtown circular routes could also use vans, though I don't know how full they get.

The answer is for Omaha to get with the program and build a legitimate light rail network much like Denver has.

the fringe routes like the 1 and 10 and 16 and 17 routes I could see downsizing cause no one really use those routes

but not the big ones like the 15 or 2 or 18

Well, I would not say no one

I take the 17 from time to time, and I normally see one other person.

I use the 1 a lot. It sometimes has up to eight riders. Thats the big time! But that is quite impressive for such a neighborhood route that's only 30 minutes long. About five years ago, from what I can remember, they used to use the moby vans a lot on the 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 16, 17, 22, 24, 26, 30, 32, 35, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 111 (which I miss so dearly) and even the 55 on occasion (which was always a real bust). So, most of the routes used to use the vans a lot. Some of those numbers, today, I could never imagine a van being able to support. Shows signs that things are a lot better than they were.

I hated the vans, too. There's no appeal to them, for me. They are very cramped, very noisy in the inside, even worse than the buses, especially since theres nowhere for the sound to travel to. They sounded like they were going to collapse any moment, and you couldn't see out the front window either. Just hated them. I prefer riding the big boy bus.
