Hey all

I'm back in the oc after being gone for 4 years in Alaska. I'm really into night photography of abandoned things, sadly Im having a rough time finding anything close by. Anyone have any suggestions? The more beat-up and rusted the better.

Thanks!

Quite a drive from the OC but I agree it is Zombie Land. Make sure to stop by "Slab City". Do not go thru there after dark.

The Bridge to Nowwhere outside Asuza (up in LA). ALL day hike (start @ 5 a.m.) and hard to find. You probably shold bring a gun. There are mountain lions and Rattlesnakes (reptile and human). It is nasty (gangbanger territory) at the beggining of the trail, but when you get about a mile out, it is beautiful.

There are some old silver mining or hunting shacks in the Cleveland National forest (access from Silverado Canyon), but they are even harder to find.

If you dive, there are a lot of wrecks off of Catalina Island.

You will find a lot of abandoned cats in Balboa.

Actually in Balboa, the former Bubbles resturaunt has been empty for years. I think there was something in there for a little while, but it went away. I dont remember to check very often. Maybe it is occupied again.

Real estate in OC is too valuable to leave much abandoned.

Come to Detroit. I can show you rusty abandonment and decay to your heart's content. You can fill all of your memory chips with picutres of abandoned things. In places, I can show you where it appears that the entire city is abandoned (it is not, some parts are still pretty nice, but some areas are almost completely empty and were once completely full. In many places the buildings are gone, and it is just fields of weeds). Right accross the river from us is a steel foundry abandoned since 1981. It is roughly 8 stories high and almost a mile long.

Thanks guys. Yeah most of my shots are done at night and I've come to realize around the oc that not too much is left abandoned. I will head out to the Salton sea next week to see if there is anything to photograph. Alaska had so much to shoot due to high shipping and disposal costs. It was an abandoned photo paradise. I would post my website to give you an idea of what I'm looking for but I'm not sure I can according to the tos.

We have a lot of abandoned buildings up here in the Mother Lode. Some old mines and caves. Bridges. Even some towns are abandoned. Some old lumber mills, lumber camps.

There used to be an abandoned tin mine in Trabuco Canyon, a couple miles up canyon from where you leave the pavement.

Overlooking DP Harbor is the cement foundation from the 1920s of a hotel and bar that were never built. This place in Laguna belonged to one of my favorite adventurers, Richard Halliburton:
