I can see both sides. I think a lot of Boomers assume that housing prices then were just as unaffordable as they are now. In actually, continually decreasing interest rates and huge population increases rose housing prices far and away past what the ratios are today. Housing was much more affordable then, even if it was expensive relative to other states.

This cartoon tells it ALL:

My first house 23 years ago was 3x my income and my loan rate was about 8%. Which was considered a good rate. And I just bought a house last year. Amazing 3x income but my loan rate was 3.45% . Btw I saved for 12 years to get the down payment. I had certain things I wanted to fulfill. So I saved fir them. I didn't cry how life is unfair. I already know life is unfair. Crying about it doesn't change that fact. I'm paying the same taxes anyone else is paying. And Im not a boomer. Not even close. And in 30 years a gen Abbazabba will be whining how Millenials have it so good because they bought when they did. Rinse lather repeat.

I know 5 guys from my former company. All in the 25-30 Millenial range. They all saved to buy houses.

Bada bing, bada boom.

That's affordable in So Cal.

Sure you gotta have money to put 20 down and a job but that's pretty much anywhere. The problem is people want to have their cake and eat it too. I want a beach house a Mercedes money in the bank and get it all for the low low price of what a guy who bought 30 years ago. Because it's not fair otherwise.
No Millenial I know wants a Merced and beach house. My friend has a son going to university in Az and I asked him if he was moving back here when he graduates. He doubted it because it's a lot easier to succeed out of state. My other friends kids have moved to Ohio and Boston. My nephew works in Irvine and still lives at home. See a trend?? I'm in my 50's and if I hadn't bought my place in 02 I doubt I could afford to live here.

Good for you that you bought when you did. It'll be sad to see you go to AZ. When do you plan to move?

Could of fooled me. 1/2 the people I come in contact with are posers. Believe me I get to see a side of a person that most don't.

And moving? Well that's your choice. And theirs. Nobody is forcing anybody to live here. That's why I don't get why people are so upset about cost of things here. It's not like it's a "Surprise surprise surprise California is expensive. We kept it a secret till you got here. Isn't that funny? " I still SMH when I get a applicant who is from out of state and they say I didn't know it was so expensive out here. Did you not research before moving? In fact most people would be better off moving elsewhere. The problem is that when they move the same thing happens where they move to. Demand rises and so COL and everything associated to that rises except wages because now there is a larger labor pool so employers don't need to entice people with higher wages if they don't have to.

And the you bought in 02 otherwise you couldn't buy here should give you a big clue about living here. Which I'm sure you know. I have plenty of friends who moved out and they want back in badly but they can't. Either way some can, some can't, some do, some don't. I know if I move out of Ca I'll keep my properties. Getting rid of California real estate is not a good idea. Sure it has its ups and downs but you said it.

The vast majority of millennials still believe in socialism, and big government. They want government to give them free health care, birth control, free everything. They don't understand or care about the total costs to society (which is why you when you ask "How will this all be paid on the national level?" they immediately resort to name calling or don't answer the question at all).

And this is being promoted from the time they were in grade school, by politicians, movies and more. One of the problems is that people have quit thinking and now just accept what they are told.

The big problem is millennials are taught or indoctrinated to believe that Socialism is "better" for society, when in reality it's simply state sponsored theft that killed over 100 million people in the 20th century alone.

They say ignorant things like "A $15 minimum wage will help eliminate poverty". Then you ask them to continue their idea and ask "Why not just make the minimum wage $100 an hour and eliminate poverty altogether?" It's fun watching their heads short circuit.

If kids were taught that for them to eat, they have to work, the world would be a better place.
