I've always heard about the "fabulousness" of Newport Beach but honestly I'm having trouble finding it. I've walked around Balboa Pier and the surrounding areas and I was a little disappointed. IMHO the Rubys on the Huntington pier is nicer and the shops along the beach seem like they could use a revamp or something. I will admit that Fashion Island is nice but the Spectrum is a pretty close second in the shopping department. Is there some other really nice part to it (beach, shopping, etc)? Corona Del Mar seems reasonably nice but I haven't spent alot of time there yet but the beaches in Dana Point and Laguna kill anything that I've seen in NB. I'm only asking this because I don't want to miss out on anything (I only have 10 days left on my trip). Thanks in advance for any tips!

If you are into nature you could walk some trails along the "Back Bay" in Newport Beach. Take a camera and take some pictures of the birds, wildlife and vegetation along the trail. Then you could post the pictures on here (please, please, please) for all of us to see and enjoy.

You cannot get into the really nice parts. Only the elite are allowed.

There are no elite parts outside Newport Coast. Its just a bunch of dumpy apartments, duplexes, and small homes.

There is a 22-mile "Mountains to Sea" trail you can ride. It's really incredible, and an easy ride.

More info:

Do you do the Mountain to Sea trail by horseback, or bike or? Can you rent horses at the Irvine end?

Typically by bike. Although I belive horses are allowed on it. Toward the Irvine end, I saw more and more horses, but no where to rent them. I couldn't go into the moutains because I have a city bike (A Townie).
