That's because most people in general, when given their own free choice, prefer to be with people like themselves despite the messages the government, universities, the media, and the internet companies like to propagate. SoCal probably as the most heterogeneous, diverse mix of neighborhoods in the US (NYC too) but in general throughout the world whites tend to prefer to live with whites, blacks with blacks, Asians with Asians, Mexicans with Mexicans, etc. It's natural and tribal. Despite the myth of "Diversity is Our Strength" people tend to vote more, commit less crime, socialize more, etc when living in same race communities; 90% of churches are at least 85% of the same race. Why? Because people want it this way. White would rather commute an hour out of town to NOT live in nonwhite neighborhoods. How many of the most far left, liberal, progressive whites live in a majority nonwhite neighborhood or have their kids attend a majority nonwhite school?

Anyway, when I'm considering a place to live, I dont necessarily think about what ethnicities live there, rather I consider the aesthetic of the neighborhood, the convenience of stores (Ralph's Vons, Starbucks, etc) and the overall reputation of the town or city. I also consider how clean and nice the other houses or apartments look and whether of course, is the area safe? I want to live in a nice place that is safe and pretty to be in.
I want to enjoy trees, manicured lawns, landscaping and I want to live around others there want to keep their homes well-kept. Very simple, don't care what ethnicity you are, just don't be filthy and pig-like and we can all co-exist, no prob.
While the mother sounds like an emotional weakling, she probably hasn't been bombarded with multicultural propaganda and is realistic and sensitive enough to appreciate her own racial identity; and she fears, by her daughter marrying a gringo, that identity is likely to be reduced.

When I'm considering a place to live, one of the first things I think about is the races that live there. It's more likely my kids will marry someone of their race if we live in a community of people like ourselves. There are also the comforts and bindings of common heritage and culture.

Because I'm honest, natural, and socially healthy, I prefer my neighbors to be like me.

Why is Orange County so self segregated?

First of all, is what you claim to see, actually true? Do those other forums actually have less proportion of people asking for demographically specific neighborhoods?

If it is true, there could be many reasons: OC is relatively affluent and people might have more choice as to where to live. Could be OC has many jobs attracting people from all over the US who aren't familiar with OC neighborhoods.

Or, it might not be true at all.

Human nature is about the same. People want to live with people like themselves. Why it may appear more people ask these question in the OC forum probably has less to do with the people themselves than with the nature of the county.

Hopefully all the different races and cultures can maintain their identities so there are distinct differences to appreciate.
But in spite of what you think, your whiteness doesn't make you special. In fact there actually is no specific American 'white culture' or identity to maintain. I'm white but I never thought that being a white American gave me bragging rights. There is no unifying 'white history' some of our ancestors came here a generation ago, others have been here for hundreds of years, some of us came from Germany, others from Italy or Russia. A fair number of white Americans can't name their ancestors past two generations. Some of our ancestors were great inventors, others were slave owners. The only trait we share is skin color, we don't all worship the same God or celebrate holidays the same way.

Do African Americans have a specific identifiable culture or identity as far as you’re concerned?

Yes, far more than whites. In the US most blacks have a common history, as do many Hispanic Americans who also share a similar culture. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with being white - I'm white, but to claim that there is some kind of shared white culture and history is just dead wrong. We should all be proud of who we are and what we do, it's just outrageous to bandy about how our skin color makes us special, it truly doesn't.

Delusional, truly delusional as it relates to whites not having a culture but black Americans do...
