These threads on this forum (and various others including Florida, Tennessee, Maryland, and California) used to be incredibly dynamic, vibrant and active. I've lurked from my friend's account and had mine for a total of about 3 years.

It seems to me the activity is down around 80%. Especially with so many people at home during the pandemic, and the mass exodus from various states, what on earth could be causing this drastic slowdown of activity?

Maybe it's just me?

The politic push that eventually gets into just about every thread is driving many away. I looked back at years ago and far more activity and far less political rants. The CA forum and each section is definitely experiencing this. It used to be much better and hopefully it will get better again.

I’ve only been a member since 2019 when I moved back to CA. The Bay Area forum is awful with the political push & rants.^^ AND now that we are looking to move to OC, I have seen the same here. ITA it drives ppl away.

edit: How long ago was it better?

I have been scrolling back to read messages in OC, my favorite County and it looks like it started to really drop about 2 years or so ago. Not absolutely sure but people I saw regularly posting on Southern CA threads have not been around since then. They had good and helpful comments.

Looks like OC, Ventura and the IE are quite dead, LA a bit better, with the SD and CA being the best and even then not very good.

My opinion is too many bullies and intimidators are members here

Relocations (both rentals and for buying) are way down, due to Covid, for one thing. I miss those threads. The rental market in some areas has been frozen, due to the whole lost-income issue and the rent freeze.

I think City-Data skews towards older users and it is not attracting / getting replenished by new and younger users. They are on more modern websites with better technology.

This.

As someone who's been on CDF for almost 15 years, I will also add there are far more options for researching other cities and towns and states than there were then.

I don't know of any that are better than C-D, though.

Yes, there are some that are great for additional information, but City Data is my absolute "go to" when I am researching a new place. The information is thorough and well organized. I haven't found a better website for researching places to move or to visit. I don't mean the websites that list tourist attractions and things to do, etc. I am talking about hard information.

Another thing probably reducing traffic on C-D lately is that many people now go straight to YouTube. It is a lazy way out.
