Since the Clintons first tried to pass a health care initiative, the rising approval of state-run healthcare is not due to higher approval of socialism, but higher costs. An increase indicative of less providers. The government should play. The government should not pay. How about they encourage greater supply through less regulation? Shown in a 2008 CNN Poll, nearly half of U.S.'s primary care physicians said the they would leave medicine in the next 5-7 years if given the opportunity when asked why- they responded, "red tape/government interference."

ObamaCare will not work in the US. In America, only 20% of our doctors are primary care (half of which said they would leave), 80% are specialty. With subspecialty physicians, there is less competition and a ton of inefficiency because doctors must coordinate information and paperwork with 2-3 plus doctors for one patient. In countries with socialized healthcare, primary care is anywhere from 60-80% of the total. Since U.S. only has 20% of it's total practicing primary care, increased access places a huge demand on them. Furthermore, there's not a government run healthcare on sub-specialty doctors available anywhere in the world.

- We need to decrease the costs of medical schools so that more kids can afford to become become doctors (encouraging primary care). It costs almost $200,000 to become a doctor now a- days! It is no wonder we are in a crisis!

-- We need to increase the number of work visas to bring talented new doctors here from China and India. We have 5 million lawn mowers from Mexico come here in the last 10 years, but only 50,000 primary care physicians here permenantly.

-It costs Little Johnny $35,000 to amputate his leg, not because of greed, but because there are so few surgeons.

-The main and only reason why people want socialized care is because they think the lack of competition is driving prices throught the roof. Supporters believe the government can control price. Where do we draw the line? In this ideology, the government should also take over the fuel industry when prices surpass $4/Gallon, or the milk industry when the cost of a gallon passes $5.

-We have 15 million illegal immigrants in this country, which hospitals are giving service to but not collecting payment. How can they collect a debt, or even file a collection, on a social security numbers that were purchased on the black market? Obama wants to provide these folks with ObamaCare and initiate an amnesty, increasing immigration (as history shows). In effect, more American's will pay for more Mexican's healthcare. Why when we can't even afford our own!?

The solution needs to be supply-focused; not tax focused.

BTW during the deregulation under Clinton we still had a republican controlled congress..

---------------------------------------
Charlie Gibson, CNBC: "And in the 1980s, when the capital gains tax was increased to 28 percent, the revenues went down. So why raise it at all, given the fact that 100 million people in this country own stock and would be affected?"

Obama: "Well, Charlie, what I've said is that I would look at raising the capital gains tax for purposes of fairness."
-----------

You heard it folks, Obama associates "more taxes, yet less government revenue" with fairness. I think my six-year old can better understand this MORE TAXES, yet LESS REVENUE idea.

Not embarrassed because I left CA before it was too late. So you obviously don't see the correlation between CA turning majority Democrat from majority Republican and the current mess? Just read the newspapers, look at unemployment, the bankruptcy of your state. I would like to say it is funny but I can't considering most of my family is still there and suffering greatly from Democrat rule in what once was a great state. It is no surprise that the people that ran the state into the ground don't see their part in ruining the once great state of CA. It is now just s memory that will never renew itself with the current state of politics in CA.

It is the jealous people that want their hands in the bank accounts of the people that make it that made CA Democrat. It is the people that won't work as hard to make it, the people that feel that they are entitled to the fruits of other people's hard work.

I am all for taking care of people that have come upon hard times until they get their feet back on solid ground or those that have had tragedies in their lives. It is the free loaders that have spawned out of the entitlement society brought on by the Democrats that have ruined CA and made it what it is today.

It is too bad that the Republicans look so much like the Democrats nowadays. Voting for either makes little difference anymore. There needs to be a 3rd party that can bring the US back to where it once was, CA can come along for the ride. That is unless the people of CA enjoy the current situation they are in.

If we lived in Texas we would have a mansion and be able to go to Europe every single year. In California that is not the case. Putting enough money away for retirement, saving for putting kids through college (I will have all three in college at once in three years), higher taxes etc... gets expensive and suddenly your cushion of income isn't such a cushion.

I'm sorry if you are offended we voted this way. Financially it is what we needed to do, although I understand there are so many people worse off and I understand their votes also. I am looking forward to many things about Obama's Presidency such as the end of the War in Iraq and hopefully the turning around of the economic problems. We'll see how things go. It is a time for unity, not bickering with each other and I have pretty much moved on. Obama is the next president and after 8 years of Bush, not too much could go wrong
missionhome,

It is funny how you compare TX. We moved from Irvine to TX and I can say that you are 100% correct. We are not independently wealthy but much better off now. We have friends that lives in Austin. They moved from Irvine 15 years ago, went into semi-retirement, they owned property. They put both their children through college, have no debt. They travel to Europe at least once a year, usually for about a month. If you were to ask them if they regret their decision one bit they would say emphatically no.

I would venture to say people like yourselves are going to be rare in California's future. We left for that very reason. We wanted our kids to have a better chance, to be able to dream of their future without the government killing that dream. Good luck to you and I hope you continue to be successful and prosper. If you ever get tired of putting up the fight come to TX and upgrade your life, maybe even see a little of Europe while you are at it.,

Why is Orange County mostly republican? Becasue college educated older persons tend to gravitate to the republican party. Most people start out as libneral democrats becaue the ideals are wonderful, then they see what actually works what human nature is actually, like and they gradually become republicans. Why are so many older people republicans? Wisdom replaces idealism as we age.

I love it and it is so true. I grew up a hippie thinking everyone should just be able to do their own thing and leave each other alone. I had fun but was pretty apathetic. I got married and realized that an individuals effort meant nothing unless we all worked together however I then realized that if stifled individual creativity, drive, enthusiasm, that was the real danger in our world. This stifling comes in many forms, overtaxing, over regulating, discouraging wealth, etc.. That is where we have failed our country today.

Intelligence without wisdom is dangerous as is witnessed by California's current predicament. There is only one thing that can bring CA back to the glory days and it is not more of what the Democrats or for that matter the current crop of Republicans have to offer. It is getting back to the days where people can reach for the stars, see no limits to their dreams. Our current government is not the answer, it is the citizens doing the right thing without the interference of the government that will make a difference.

Like I said before intelligence without wisdom is dangerous. You pointed that out by explaining to the poster that wisdom is not IQ which the poster was unaware of?
