Is there a block of furniture stores in OC like the "tile row" on State College Blvd? If so, please tell me location and store names.

There's something called Furniture Row in Laguna Hills. It's on Avenida de la Carlota and Ridge Route.

There's a couple of areas with quite a few furniture reatlers clustered together I can think of:

El toro Y - There are several furniture stores right off Alton Parkway and the 5 in the Costco shopping center. There is also a row of furniture/ Home stores off avenida de carlotta between Lake Forest Dr. & El toro Blvd.

South Coast Plaza - There are several stores in South Coast Plaza - Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, etc - but also in the shopping centers across Sunflower as well (Room & Board, Cost Plus). One exit up from South Coast is Ikea. There was also a big furniture/ home power center that got built in like 2007 near the Ikea. You could see it off the 405. But I think most of the stores went under when the economy tanked.

The Tustin Marketplace used to have several stores near the Home Depot - Pier One, Jennifer's, and a couple independents, but I think many have gone under.

405 at Harbor north of the freeway. To the right on South Coast Drive is Ikea. To left on South Coast Drive(at the end of the street where the freeway onramp is) is a relatively new furniture sales complex with a lot of different places.

405 at Euclid north of the freeway has a ton of places as well.

I've always wondered how furniture stores stay open. Unless you're Ikea, Crate & Barrel or one of the big boys, how do you sell enough furniture to pay the rent, employees, etc? If I need to buy brand new furniture, I would never think to go to a no-name store.

I think the markup on furniture is pretty high and that stuff's not exactly cheap. A lot of them tend to be in furniture rows so even though each store may not be nationally known, people still hit every store trying to find the perfect piece. Furniture stores use any holiday for an excuse for a sale. I suspect they tread water most of the year and make their money on the volume generated by a holiday sale driven by big newspaper ads. Many of them also go out of business with every downturn in the economy.

I am interested in the names of the stores, other than the national chains. (Ikea,Pottery Barn etc.) I would like to look at store websites before I move to Orange County, so that I can narrow down my choices and spend less time driving and shopping.
