High Wind Warning in Northwest Oregon

Hopefully this won't turn out to be as bad as they predict, but word is it will be worse than the December 14, 2006 windstorm.

Gusts up to 55-60 mph in the Portland Area.

I've been very fortunate, the mountains protect me from the winds. Very seldom have much wind here on the side of the mountain.

Wind was pretty serious in Central Oregon. It's still blowing now. I haven't seen any wind speeds, but nothing blew away, so we've had worse in the past.

My weather station topped out with a gust at 34 mph. Not much, in the great scheme of things. Of course, we're not known for wind here.

By yesterday afternoon we had about 8" of snow and got less than an inch overnight, with more coming today and tomorrow. Alllllmost enough to get out, fire up the tractor and plow our two-mile-plus steep gravel road. Fairly heavy, wet snow, too. Often the snow here is so dry that it is hard to pack into a snowball.

Right now the sun is out and we're surrounded by blue skies and brilliant white snow, but I suspect this is the famous northwest "sucker hole" to attract people into trying to go out and do something, so that the weather can pounce.

This is turning into more of a snow event than a windstorm.

I took everything off of my deck so it wouldn't blow away. But it turned out to be pretty mild in my part of the Portland area (SW).

Oh well, an ounce of prevention...

The Sun is out right now. Haven't had any snow here, but a dusting 2 mornings ago.

Merry Christmas...
