You did not say that we need to fear for our lives. You did not warn people away from Oregon because of the gang presence. You simply answered a question that is often posed on City-Data.....are there gangs in Oregon.

I for one appreciate the information as I have been shopping for a home in Oregon. I have found my place on the coast, but looked at Grants Pass, Roseburg, Medford, and Eugene. Would your information have dissuaded me from buying a home there? No, not at all.

But then you have to consider that I grew up next door to Compton and Whittier. So I know what true gang problems are. I currently live 70 miles north of Ciudad Juarez and El Paso, Texas. So I know what true gang problems are. Oregon has gang members living there, but they do not have a gang "problem".

Pacoima, Sylmar, and Newhall here so I understand, but if the question was about Portland, a little more caution would be needed. They have had six shootings in five days.

And at one time I lived for a year at 200 South Mountain Avenue in Phoenix. Those who have been there know what that means.

Come to think of it that 6 months at 16th and Alberta in Portland was no picnic.

and River Rouge near Detroit ....

...... and Gary Indiana ...........
............................................. and ..................

Dang now I went and scared myself. I guess I am lucky to be alive.

I live just south of Albuquerque, the true wild west. Everyday there are reports of shootings. The frightening part of that.....they are usually officer involved shootings, not gang shootings. And yep, gangs are rampant in Albuquerque. The Albuquerque PD are in the middle of a U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation about excessive force, and yet the officer involved shootings continue. Baffling.

Who were the bald, mongoloids who came through Eugene in the '90s?
Where did they come from? Where did they go?

Well while I agree with you on some points, I would just like to say that I lived in the area for over 30 years and their definitely is gangs in the area of "Methford" and the coast for that matter. Generally, where their is drugs, their are gangs and drugs have always been a big issue. But what do I know, I am old and belong to the AARP gang.
