The Wednesday Jan 15-16 snow storm left 6-8" of wet, heavy snow here on the mountain.
My steep gravel logging road driveway has mucho snow still.

Pacific Power said 19,000 homes lost power during the storm, due to falling trees & power lines.
Our power was off from 3AM Jan16 to 4PM Jan 18. Pacific Power had many crews out there restoring power. In the last 30 years, i only remember one other storm (ice storm) that can equal this one.
Be Safe out there, Folks.

Yeah, South Douglas and North Josephine got a lot of snow. 138 was closed by falling trees. They even closed I-5 over Sexton until they could tow all the spin-outs and run a plow through. Power was out in Glendale. I didn't hear that the outage ran as far north as Azalea.

Today was a delight. I was outside all afternoon with the dogs in the sunshine. They love it when I do stuff outside, instead of just walking with them.

Do you know what follows two days of rain in Oregon?

Monday.

Sorry for the people who have to work indoors on nice days, then get rained out on weekeds.

People keep saying it rains a lot in Oregon but it doesn't. We just have a lot of rainy/cloudy/gloomy days but the total rainfall is not that great.

We could have 10 rainy days back to back and still have about the same amount of rain somewhere like Texas gets in one good rainy day.

Here in Southern Oregon we just finished five months without measurable rainfall. You may have noticed the wildfires. It's true we don't have frequent floods like the Gulf Coast, but every few years we get hit by one. Our summer droughts are much more reliable. Over the last 50 years I only remember two times it rained all summer.

Mostly it just drizzles. Meriwether Lewis recorded that in his journal when they wintered over on the coast. Things haven't changed much.

Tuesday & Wednesday this week it rained pretty good compared to the drizzle we usually get the last 6 lustrum. We might have gotten an inch or more. We need rain.
