Looking to purchase a vacation condo. Can anyone tell me about Sweetwater Club? Is this a nice area?
Thanks!

Kind of mixed reviews. Kissimmee overall isn't considered the best of locations.

Vacation home for now. We would like to find something that works as a vacation home for now and a retirement home in a few years, but we're having a hard time finding an area that suits both. Any suggestions?

Do you feel the need to be in the middle of the tourist area?? I would think in retirement the congestion of tourists 24/7 would get old pretty quick. What do you see yourselves doing in terms of interests? Would being closer to the coast seem more attractive to you or a more rural or even somewhat urban location?

We've been looking in the Melbourne Beach area as well. There's just so much more to do in the Orlando. An urban location would definitely be of interest. It would be nice to be able to walk to restaurants, shops, etc. Any recommendations?

Melbourne Beach (and neighboring Indialantic) are infinitely more walkable/pedestrian friendly than most areas of Orlando which by the way overwhelmingly is "suburban" versus "urban" with not many dense, walkable areas. I'm also not sure about the "so much more to do" premise regarding Orlando as the Melbourne area offers most everything the Orlando area does, except Disney and such or all the traffic. There'll be four Olive Gardens for example in Orlando while Melbourne may only have one, but otherwise not that much different.

Please don't mislead these people with blatant lies. There is way more to do in Orlando and "infinitely" more urban areas in the metro than anything Melbourne Beach has to offer. People from Melbourne come to Orlando when looking for things to do, and people from Orlando go to Melbourne when looking for the beach. Not bashing Melbourne, it is a fine place indeed, but to compare it with same amenities as Orlando is laughable.

And that "overwhelming suburban" feel versus urban feeling you got Kyle is due to the fact that you live in the far flung suburbs of Orlando (Sanford), and not in the city. Orlando feels just as urban if not much more so than most sun belt cities of its size.

Name the infinite more things to do other than the theme parks....go ahead. This is always a fun exercise...please list what things to do outside of "tourist crap" Orlando has over Melbourne.

I've lived in the area (besides Sanford) on and off for nearly 15 years, it's all pretty much the same. Furthermore the words "Orlando" and "urban" don't belong in the same sentence, that's laughable and misleading information. It's a big suburb by definition through low density and offers few "urban areas". And what sunbelt cities around a population of 240,000 are we comparing it's sense of urban feel to? Can't think of any of similar size that are Suburban like Orlando.

I really wish the cheerleader yahoos here could take off their rose-colored glasses and offer a realistic view of life here. I realize it's probably the high point of their existence and some kind of move up from where they've been before, but the reality for most doesn't match that fantasy. It's a fine place to live but it's really not all that and kind of ordinary in comparison to other Sunbelt cities.

Multiple galleries and City Arts Factory, farmers markets, art walks, lit readings, dining, parks, Bok Tower, Leu Gardens, Science Center, Shakespeare Theater, Repertory Theater, Orlando Museum of Art, Mennello Museum, History Center, other small museums (plus a bunch in Winter Park), Mad Cow, Theater Downtown, etc. etc. There really is not much you CAN'T do in Orlando. In fact, there's so much to do that it makes it impossible to create a decent list of things you can do. There's some great local shopping, especially if you're into unusual items or antiques (Ivanhoe), and Orlando is known for its mall shopping (I'm personally not a fan). For adults, there's enough clubs and bars to make you sick, and some nice wine bars in several different areas. Lots of local music, too. Plus all the family stuff... outdoor movies, regular theaters, mini golf, bowling, blah blah blah).

And parts of Orlando are very urban. If you can easily function all or most of the time without a car (meaning, you have everything you need within walking distance or most within walking and the rest within affordable public transit), it is an urban area, IMO. And Orlando's core easily meets that requirement.
