Wow, I am so surprised at how low West Orange ranks. Looking at the school zone you'd expect them o be superior, I know there are some iffy areas north of hwy 50 that go there, But that is no reason for them to be so low. Also the best middle school in the district Bridgewater is zoned for West Orange also.

Off topic: Is there a link to the original list? And is the same list available for Seminole County schools?

Thanks!

Poor East River and Oak Ridge are the only ones without a single grad going to a top school this year.

Also don't forget some numbers mean a little more than others, as the schools vary in size from 1800 - 3500 students.
As a percentage overall still the students going off to top universities is still low.

Even though many students get accepted to certain universities, the costs and accumulated debt after graduating may not be worth it for some if they don't receive a scholarships. More and more high school graduates are staying home and going to local colleges and universities.

I agree. Who needs a degree from an ivy league school. We make too much money for financial aid and any scholarship would never compare to in state tuition. Unless your child is a genius, its just not necessary. The only thing my husband has noticed is that harvard graduates are more likely to get teaching and research positions. However, you do not get paid more. Its just something different to focus on. And is less stressfull. Our kids will not be going to private schools even though well above average students, not far enough to go to mit or harvard. But smart enough to go to medical school or any other advanced education one can do anywhere.

If you can get into an Ivy League school it is worth it unless you have a "joke" major. If you go to an average private university, I agree that in most cases, it's not worth the price.

My alma mater (Georgia Tech) is not on the Top 20 list. But it is consistently named the top school for Return on Investment. Because it is cheap and graduates wind up in high paying jobs right out of school. So I agree - an Ivy league education might not guarantee anything other than alot of school loans.

When I started at GT in 1996, my instate tuition was $775 dollars per quarter! And the Georgia Lottery paid full tuition for any instate students graduating HS with a 3.0. So I didn't even have to pay the $775. Not sure my husband and I will be as lucky as my parents were!
