Hi all !!

In preparation for my move, I'm trying to figure out how to register my kids for the school year 2018-2019. I have some quick questions. Can anyone please help me figure this out?

1. In the Organge Public School website (www2.ocps.net) I do not see anything about Pre-K. Is this available in Orlando? In NYC there is a program called Pre-K for everyone, so every child 5 y/o can attend pre-k in all public schools.

2. When is the date for school registration. For the 2018-2019 year, my daughter will enter 1st grade and my son Pre-K (if available). I found a registration page, but I'm not sure this is for the actual registration or counseling session. Here in NY the entire application system is online. Any thoughts on procedures and deadlines?

Thank you all for the great support !!

1) the preschool program you are referring to is what we call VPK or voluntary pre-kindergarten. It's usually free or low cost. Many elementary schools do not offer it, but check anyway. Many daycares and private schools offer the program. Both of my children attended a nearby VPK program through a private school. It was nearly free. We paid a little bit so that our kids could attend an extra hour each day that the VPK program didn't find. We switched them to their long-term elementary school the next year.

2) call the office at your neighborhood school for school registration. Not all schools or counties here do online regiatration first.

Good luck!

WestCoastSunset23,

Thank you for the reply. Based on what I've been reading and what you mentioned, your suggestion in exactly what I will do.

This is the first time I'll move to another state, so I'm terrified and hoping to avoid any mistakes or issues that can delay school registration.

Thanks again !
