I am trying to find some good outdoors areas in the Attractions area. I am looking for stuff no more than a 20 minute drive, preferable to the south (not going through Downtown). You hear so much about the themed attractions, and the great parks an hours or so drive away, but what is there right in that area?

Turkey Lake park or Lake Louisa Park are very large. You should look at the Parks and Rec website:

Lake Louisa State park is 20 minutes from Disney World and very beautiful. it's a large, very natural park with trails, picnic areas, and more.

If you want to stay very close to the attractions (Disney), there is an awesome park called Tibet-Butler Preserve on 535. It is about 4-5 minutes from Downtown Disney and very easy to drive to. You'll need to check their websites (can't remember where I finally found it). They are closed two days a week. The park is FREE and has a new hands-on learning center; the boardwalk trails are very nice and miles long (You can choose how far you want to walk through the preserve).

Another option is the West Orange Trail

West Orange Trail

It's within 20 minutes of both Disney (via the 429 to Winter Garden) and Universal (via the Turnpike to Winter Garden or Clermont)

There are also a lot of Airboat tours in the Kissimmee area. The best is on 192 on Shingle Creek. You can also canoe.
