I hear you about the filters...so expensive. I am fine with having no ice maker. But I do have to replace my vacuum filter
I don't have an ice maker, either. Just a couple of ice cube trays. If I don't use the ice for a while it gets stale, so I empty the trays and make fresh ice.

Bummer!

I remember our fridge when I was a kid. It was one of those with the coils on top, and the "freezer" was a little compartment with a plastic door over it which took forever to freeze the water in one of those metal ice cube trays with the handle on top. Anybody remember those?

Me too. These days the ice is not lasting very long. I hate going somewhere and getting a drink with stale ice. Then I start feeling like I might be drinking sewer water Great tip, not just for this time of year, but for all year. Thank you, Pam!

Thanks for the trip down memory lane PJ8...........those metal ice trays were so hard to use.

Can't imagine not having ice and water dispensers in my frig. I use a ton of ice it never gets stale at my house. On hot days I give my dog bowls of ice.........he loves chomping on it or just laying his head over the bowl.
