Hi, kids! I hope you all had a great weekend. My state was one of those hit hard by
storms and tornados on Friday. So I thought I would make Today's Tip about safety
measures you can take during a severe thunderstorm. Scroll on down for Today's important Tip.

WHAT DO TO DURING A THUNDERSTORM:

Indoors:
  • Stay off the phone.
  • Stay away from windows.
  • Use flashlights if the power goes out.
  • Discontinue use of phones and electrical equipment. You may also want to unplug appliances and computers.
  • Avoid taking a shower or bath. If lightning strikes your house it may send a current of electricity across metal plumbing throughout the house.
Outdoors:
  • Stay low.
  • If possible, find shelter in a building.
  • Keep away from trees, tall objects, metal objects and water.
  • Boaters and swimmers should get to land as soon as possible.
  • If you're in a group caught outside, spread out.
  • If you begin to feel your hair stand on end, this indicates lightning is about to strike. You should drop to your knees and bend forward placing your hands on your knees and crouch down. Do not lie flat on the ground, this will only make you a larger target.

Very, very good and (unfortunatelytimely advice), and a tip which is most definitely a life safer. Getting caught less than half a mile from an F5 tornado, definitely has made think more about my safety. Severaly years ago, my Mom and I were standing looking out the kitchen window during a wind and hail storm. Wind/hail blew the window in, and fortunately we managed to escape unscathed, but felt pretty foolish about being that close to a window. Thank you, so much Pam. Really sad thinking about all those folks who lost their lives or were injured. My prayers and thoughts are with you, Pam.

Another good tip! ~ This is shocking I tell you.

Question: What should you do if you're in a car and there's lightning & rain?

Thunderstrom is my favorite weather! I usually drive up to the top deck of our hospital high rise parking garage to observe the weather and take pictures

Scary that you have to think about such things, but you do. I found that out in the US. A house in our subdivision got hit by lightening, and the telegraph pole next to my car got hit as I was waiting to turn.

Glad you are safe, PJ!
  • Use flashlights if the power goes out. Keep them in one place with extra batteries
  • If you're in a group caught outside, spread out. Did not know that.
  • If you begin to feel your hair stand on end, this indicates lightning is about to strike. You should drop to your knees and bend forward placing your hands on your knees and crouch down. Do not lie flat on the ground, this will only make you a larger target. Did not know that.
