Good morning peevers.

We're set for the warmest day of the year so far today- nothing to get too excited by- maybe, maybe 60F!

As I type I have the BBC on the TV behind me showing the build up to the Chinese Grand Prix.

The sound is turned down for one very good reason- sports commentators!

Jeez- they never know when to shut up!

Now I appreciate that it is not an easy job, and that what is required varies from sport to sport.

That said there are very few commentators worth their salt these days.

The greats of the past knew when to let the action do the talking and shut up! Not so much these days!

They seem to feel that they have to impart every piece of information to us all the flipping time. If you're not into sport this peeve does not just apply to sport!

So my dear peevers, the POTD is;

Mouthy commentators.

Oh yes. I used to work in broadcasting, and I can tell you for a fact that those on-air people love nothing more than the sound of their own voices. They are also afraid that if there is more than a second or two of "dead air" (no sound) that the audience will lose interest and start changing the channel. So they run their mouths nonstop. It's annoying!

Yes, great peeve. And when they are babbling they incessantly keep repeating themselves over and over. I think they love to hear themselves blab blab blab all the time. Plus they all think they are experts, and they are, at babbling.

Those are the times when the mute button comes in handy. What's sad though is one ends up keeping the sound muted most of the time because they don't know when to shut up.

Mouthy commentators. sports and political both have problems. If it's not bla bla bla it's outright misinforming the viewer or listener with misinformation.

Yes! Many sports commentators drive me nuts with their overzealous reporting. Some of them even get carried away blabbing on about stuff that has nothing to do with the event they're reporting. Ha - I remember the late Harry Caray, famous Chicago baseball announcer. He'd talk about celebrities in the stands, among other junk. Who cares? Bless his heart, but if he was posting on City-Data, as a moderator I would have to give him an infraction for repeated off-topic comments!
