Had that happen today. Had to be at a 12 o'clock luncheon and hit a snag on the freeway and was an hour late, had to take an alternate route and ended up an hour late. Even though we found an alternate route traffic was still backed up everywhere.
That's not fun at any time. But when you're out of town and listen to the local traffic reporters, it can really get bad. I don't know the names of highways in other cities, but I do know that people coming to Chicago must get confused when they're looking for traffic situation on I 55 so they can get to midway airport and a traffic reporter is calling it the Stephenson. I 90 is the Kennedy I 94 is the Eden's I 88 is the Reagan. An out-of-towner doesn't have a chance
During my years of traveling to various hospitals in southern California, I found all the "less traveled roads" to reach my destination and was happy to find my travel time perhaps a little less than on the main route. I had quite a few shortcuts that I knew about.
One of the absolute WORST streets in this town, Lancaster Dr, is nearly always gridlocked. And to make matters worse, they recently lowered, yes LOWERED the speed limit from 45 to 35.
Now those who used to go 35 now do 25 as I predicted would happen.
Now there is an alternate road that runs parallel to Lancaster with a speed limit of 40, but the jokers STILL go way below the speed limit. Yesterday I was stuck behind one such Q-tip. When I finally got a chance to get around him I wanted to yell out my window "Why don't you just drive on Lancaster where it's 35 now and leave this alternate road for the rest of us who like going the speed limit ????"
I didn't of course, but I still gave the death glare. He was completely oblivious of course.
Unbelievable- I got a lift in with a colleague and we got there and back as easy as anything. Coming back we passed so many cars going the other way but no-one thought to use our route!
